Hi,
you have the theory correct, when a"hit" occurs it does decelerate the amplitude, however when this happens to a pendulum the reduction in amplitude cause the pendulum to gain. When a "hit" happens the synchroniser spring is not compressed it is expanded.

There is a vast choice but many are not suitable for clocks and you may have to repolish the pivots to a smaller size.
